The Library believes that a strong, active Friends group should be developed for the library system as a whole. Currently, 12 libraries within the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh system have a Friends group, some more active than others. Friends groups coordinate advocacy efforts, plan and provide special events, host fundraisers and volunteer to assist at library-sponsored programs. Friends should advocate for the library with elected officials and help keep the library visible within the community.
Would you consider joining one of the Library’s Friends groups?

Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh has more than 125,000 adult cardholders. If 5% of our cardholders donated $25 we would raise $156,000 for library operations. If 5% gave $50 we would raise $312,000. If 5% gave $100 we would raise $625,000. The projected deficit for 2011 is $1.7 million. Such individual donations can help reduce that deficit.
